Hi!
I am so excited to share a 2 month baby update with y’all! I can not believe it has been two months (I think I will say this every month of my life) time really does seem to go faster with a baby.
We are following Momsoncall and moved Elle to the 7-7 schedule at 6 weeks. Girlfriend was MISERABLE at night. Our walks were turning into me hold her and Andrew pushing the stroller back home because she just could not hang with the 8:30 bath time. One night she was inconsolable after bath (which is literally her favorite part of every day). Andrew looked at me and said we need to change something. It was wayyy more than just a little witching hour crying. She wasn’t even able to eat her last bottle because she was falling asleep after one ounce.
After doing a little more research and talking with some girlfriends who also follow this schedule we decided to move her up to 7-7 at 6 weeks rather than waiting until 8 (which the books says is ok, we didn’t just go rogue). It has been one of the best changes we have made, it is incredible how peaceful our nights have become in comparison to how they were.
That being said another major change that came at 6 weeks is sister moved out of our room and into the nursery. I feel like I wouldn’t have been as ready for this if we didn’t have the Owlet and the monitor that goes with it. I feel like we can still keep such a close eye on her while still allowing everyone, including her to sleep better at night.
Speaking of sleeping through the night, this has been an area I have struggled with. With Elle being a premie she has to really go at life at her own pace until she catches up. Right now she is only able to eat 3 oz at a time. Literature says she needs to be eating between 4-6 and that will be when we really start seeing a difference at night time. So I put 4 oz in every bottle and try to encourage her to drink every bit. Each time she is only taking 3 I feel myself get more and more discouraged thinking we are that much farther away from her sleeping through the night.
I have had to just come to the realization that Elle is doing Elle and I can’t control or stress about the little stuff. I know in my heart that she will be sleeping through the night eventually. We will look back on this season and think it was no sweat, right now though, it feels like I may never sleep through the night again. I have learned the most about being mentally strong and figuring out that it is still very important to continue to take care of myself in the midst of sleep deprivation and feeling defeated.
Overall it is has been such an incredible month of growth her baby girl! She is smiling, holding up her head at tummy time and rolled during tummy time the past few days! I am amazed and thankful everyday for how strong she is, what a little fighter. We are seriously obsessed with her!
